Golf academy advert Feedback
The feedback from teacher and peers (pre-production):
- All ideas were unique and are clearly targeted towards my target audience
- My chosen idea will display all the necessary information as well as still be entertaining
- My chosen idea would tick all the boxes set by the school
The feedback from teacher and peers (post-production):
- The music fits the theme of the advert and would appeal to the target audience
- The editing is good with the footage and sound in-sync with each other
- The title card looks professional with the Golf Academy logo
The feedback I got from my Focus Group (post-production):
- The information about the academy didn't totally show through because of the lack of narration
- The themes the school wanted fun, challenging and educational were shown through the visuals
- The advert made the target audience want to research the academy to find out more

Golf Academy evaluation + self evaluation
For my Golf Academy advert I first began by doing a very detailed search of audience, marketing and production research to do this I made a research plan in which i would answer all the questions I had surrounding the Glentorne golf academy such as what type of audience is the school looking for what requirements are needed to enter the academy. this information would be then put into the advert to help inform the viewer what the academy and school offers. The market research i did looked into other golf academies across the UK and what they had to offer compared to Glenthorne to find the academy's unique selling point which was the ability to attain u to 3 over A-levels while attending the academy.
Once I gained all the research i needed I began making plans for different advert ideas with different styles and techniques to show the academy as fun, challenging and educational. I came up with 3 ideas wrote down a synopsis about each one and created an animatic for my pitch presentation for the Glenthorne client . I chose my best idea and with my story board ready I began to get in contact with the head of the academy as well as the epsom golf club to get dates when i could shoot the advert and create a shooting schedule. I visited the locations I wanted in my advert and put them in my location visit details as well as created a risk assessment for each location. After casting a narrator and actors as well as finishing my props and costume list I filmed my rushes with about 40 minuets of footage in total. After that i created a rushes log and paper edit ready to begin my rough cut I finished my rough cut however there was a technical difficulty when exporting and for some reason the sound was missing. The client feedback i got was positive but highlighted this problem as well as a few small things like no contact info and narration. In my final draft I added music and found out I made a simple mistake in my rough cut where i left the mute on the sound bars and which meant no sound for the exported version I soon fixed it and added the contact information on a title card near the end of the advert.
Once all the changes I was old to make were done I watched the advert to make sure that the music and footage was in-sync. Once done I exported the clip through quick time conversion and then uploaded it onto YouTube. Once I finished my editing I had a focus group with members of our target audience where I got post production feedback. where they said e found it quite entertaining and attention grabbing. When I asked what they had learnt about the academy from the narration they said not very much. This was discouraging but they also said we would look on the school website for info because the advert had got them interested in the academy. When asked they also said the themes of a fun, challenging and educational experience where well presented in the advert and this is what got them interested.
I Believe I have improved since my last moving image work my editing skills and planning skills have vastly improved and I believe can be seen when comparing this to my music video. My original intentions did change slightly i found my advert wasn't very informative yet inspired the viewers to want to learn more by themselves with the contact info at the end of the advert.
Personal response:
I believe that the advert was quiet appropriate for my target audience young people (16 year olds entering higher education) because of the actors involved the music and the themes present in the advert. I would like to go back and add more information about the school and what else the academy offers. If I had the chance to work on it again but i believe it is still very effective and dose what the school wanted it shows that the academy is fun, challenging and educational.
ident 3 music
The music we chose was up beat and fast paced that fit the target audience and style of our channel the ident is for we downloaded it of freemusic.com we found the beat was aslo a good time in which to cut the footage to while editing as well as speed it up slightly to match the tempo.

Music video documentary script
Conventions
Conventions are used in nearly every music video as they give the video its identity as a music video for instance
Links to other artists are very common now this is a very popular form of music video you are promoting 2 or more artists at the same time from the same or different genre one of our more popular examples is “You don’t Know” by Eminem featuring 50 Cent and other popular rap stars. These are almost guaranteed success as you combine multiple fan bases creating a much bigger audience.
Extending or consolidating the video some music videos are longer than the song itself these tend to be music videos with a narrative as it gives the music video a more movie like experience. For example back in our “you don’t know” video and our “I’m not okay” video by my chemical romance give us a introduction to our main artist
Lyrical representation can be vital in a music video especially for a story based or a solemn and slower paced song for example Brad Jonas’ “This Fantasy World” which shows literal representation of this world of high adventure to bring in the audience.
Purposes
There are many different purposes to make a music video for example
One of the main reasons is to promote the artist as a record label you want to create a music video to expand an audience’s fan base. We achieved this goal with Nickelback’s “rockstar” video Nickelback became very popular after this because they got promotion in other countries than the USA.
The second is to turn the song into a visual medium this expands the fan base and outlets meaning more people will watch it because of the visual representation of the music this can be seen in our “Darude’s Sandstorm” video were we watched a high energetic chase that fit the energy and pace of the music.
Another reason is to expand the amount of outlets for your artist meaning more exposure for you and your artist we did this with our “holy diver” by ‘killswitch engaged’ video this gave their fans the ability to watch their favourite band playing outside of a performance.
The final reason is to make profit by making music videos we are bound to grow an artist’s fan base by giving them exposure as well as have people buy and download the videos of internet sites like Itunes. We done this with lady Gaga’s “Telephone” the increased revenue could then be used to make more and higher production music videos.
Styles
There are many styles of music videos that our company use but here are examples of our better-known styles for example
Animation is a simple and entertaining style of music video that can fit many genre types it costs little to produce and takes less of the artists’ time. We did this with one our first music videos “this fantasy world” which we used simple animation to create a fantasy nerdy style world.
An extra way to make money in a music video is through the influence of commercials with product placement this extra revenue can later be used to fund the music video or other projects we used this in our “Telephone” music video
Narratives can be present in a music video this brings in the audience and makes them sit through it fully to see the ending we did this in our “Last Friday night (T.G.I.F)” video by Katy Perry.
Surrealist imagery can be used to give the video a dreamlike look to fit the song and put the audience in the right frame of mind in ‘Avenged sevenfold’s’ “Bat Country”
Video they create a off putting atmosphere to put the audience at edge
Parody and pastiche are also a very popular form of music video not only dose it promote the parody artist but also the original song and artist for instance in Barley Political’s “TIK TOK PARODY” we can see the similar style of sets and costume that promote Kesha’s “Tik Tok” music video
Referencing can give the audience a idea of what inspired the artist to create the song and Homage is can be seen in a variety of different music videos as the artists put their own spin on something that influenced them. This can be seen in “Bat country” where we have a quote from Dr Johnston

Exporting my Work decisions revisions and results
I exported my work through file, export using quick time conversion then to my documents once done I opened YouTube and began to upload the footage on their once it had been done I got the embed code and put it in a blog entry and titled it "1916"Music video Final Draft.
Final edit and adding effects decisions, revisions and results
I have now finished my final draft here I addressed the feedback I got the previous lesson. I first got rid of the pixelated footage and replaced it with crisper archival footage. I added more performance shoots of the performer singing the song and spreading it out through the music video instead of have it as a big bunch in the middle. After that I began using more visual effects like chroma key for the green screen shots as well as a grain effect on the archieval footage to make it feel like it is being played on a old projector again I also had my planning documents and papper edit to use as a base to build the final cut of the music video on I will now be uploading my final draft online.
Client Feedback Decisions Revisions and Results
The feedback from the client was very useful and will be the key focus of my final edit the feedback was I needed:
- More Performance footage
- Less archival footage
- Clearer archival footage with less pixels
- Cleaner editing
All of this shall be addressed when I next do my editing.

rough edit 1916 music video decisions revisions and results
While creating my rough edit I used my paper edit as a point of reference having it by my side and checking and making revisions. The hard part was setting markers to the beat of the song once I did this I placed down my footage in time with the footage and began doing basic editing because of the slow beat I wanted to use smooth and slower paced effects unlike most music videos. When I finnished the video I began to upload it to youtube and then put it on booger to get feedback for my final draft
uploading rushes and using paper edit
Today I uploaded my rushes onto the Mac's using a memory card reader and uploading and creating a new event on the scratch disk through imovie. I also optimized my footage to fit wide screen for better presentation of the final product. Using my paper edit i uploaded the rushes I wanted saving a little space on the scratch disk. I then began to import the footage into final Cut by creating a new project and importing my footage into the browser ready to begin my editing.
Loging my rushes and paper edit decisions revisions and results
Today I finished logging my rushes I first watched all my footage to choose which rushes may and may not be used I then colour coded my chosen rushes on a sheet giving them a number and a brief description of what's in the shots. Once complete I moved on to the paper edit here I measured roughly how long 5 seconds would be on the sheets and placed coloured bars representing each rush from the log on the time line similar to how it would look on final cut while editing. This should be very useful when I begin editing
Filming rushes Decisions revisions and results
Today I filmed my rushes for my Music video I used my story boards and shooting schedule to shoot the shots that I need for the music video first so I wouldn't forget any or run out of time. I also had my risk assessment sheet as well as my location visit details to take the proper safety precautions while shooting. By the end of the day I had all the footage I needed as well as some other misc shots of the statue and graveyard that I may use while editing.

my rushes log and paper edit decisions , revisions and results
In todays lesson I finished my rushes log and edit decisions I first watched all my footage and noted and numbered all the footage and colour coded it. Once this was done I wrote a brief description of the shots so I could remember the details of them all. I then began to create my paper edit by piecing together the shots in my head using rough estimate and thinking of different ways to present the footage. I drew the colour of the represented footage segment in the boxes o show how it would look while editing this will hopefully give me a greater idea f what the finnished product may look like and how I'm going to start editing.
Filming my Rushes Decisions, Revisions and Results
In todays I finished the last of the filming for my music video. I finished by filming the last of the performances shots with the green screen my time with the green screen has given a little insight into how it works and how I will hide it with chromakey. I think having my shooting schedule with me and being more accurate with my time would have helped me avoid frantic shooting by the end of the day so next time I will use my planning documents more.

Exporting my work Decisions, Revisions and results
I exported my work today by going to file export and then through quick time conversion and saved the final cut to my folder. After I did this I uploaded the file to YouTube through the upload icon and then using the embed code added it to the company blog for the client to see the finished version.
rough draft decisions, revisions and results
During my editing of the rough draft I used my Edit decision list as my guide for my rough edit I changed a few shots around because there was a repetition of similar shots that made the advert look boring. after changing the sequence I also began to experiment by changing the speed on the footage as seen in other sports related adverts I found this to be very effective because it gave the advert a very energetic look suiting the target audience. I found out however that the music file I already chose did not fit the style of advert I intended so I decided to leave it out. I then added the catch phrase for the golf academy advert and exported it for the client to give me feedback.
Uploading all my work decisions, revisions and results
After returning from my 2nd day of filming I began to upload all my footage onto the Macs using Imovie to upload then convert the footage. I uploaded the footage through Imovie first and then optimized the footage by 960X560 to make it wide screen. Once complete I then put all the raw footage into a new Imovie event on the scratch disk called Golf academy. I am now able to import the raw footage from the golf academy folder into Final Cut to begin editing.
filming my rushes decisions, revisions and results
Over the past 2 days I have filmed over 40 minuets of footage that I can use for my golf academy advert. Learning from previous Media projects I brought my planning documents in case I would need them. Once I arrived I got out my story board and shot list to shoot all of the footage I needed and have time to get multiple takes 2 hours in I had all the footage I need and then began shooting improvised shots so I had extra footage to work with when editing.
