For my Golf Academy advert I first began by doing a very detailed search of audience, marketing and production research to do this I made a research plan in which i would answer all the questions I had surrounding the Glentorne golf academy such as what type of audience is the school looking for what requirements are needed to enter the academy. this information would be then put into the advert to help inform the viewer what the academy and school offers. The market research i did looked into other golf academies across the UK and what they had to offer compared to Glenthorne to find the academy's unique selling point which was the ability to attain u to 3 over A-levels while attending the academy.
Once I gained all the research i needed I began making plans for different advert ideas with different styles and techniques to show the academy as fun, challenging and educational. I came up with 3 ideas wrote down a synopsis about each one and created an animatic for my pitch presentation for the Glenthorne client . I chose my best idea and with my story board ready I began to get in contact with the head of the academy as well as the epsom golf club to get dates when i could shoot the advert and create a shooting schedule. I visited the locations I wanted in my advert and put them in my location visit details as well as created a risk assessment for each location. After casting a narrator and actors as well as finishing my props and costume list I filmed my rushes with about 40 minuets of footage in total. After that i created a rushes log and paper edit ready to begin my rough cut I finished my rough cut however there was a technical difficulty when exporting and for some reason the sound was missing. The client feedback i got was positive but highlighted this problem as well as a few small things like no contact info and narration. In my final draft I added music and found out I made a simple mistake in my rough cut where i left the mute on the sound bars and which meant no sound for the exported version I soon fixed it and added the contact information on a title card near the end of the advert.
Once all the changes I was old to make were done I watched the advert to make sure that the music and footage was in-sync. Once done I exported the clip through quick time conversion and then uploaded it onto YouTube. Once I finished my editing I had a focus group with members of our target audience where I got post production feedback. where they said e found it quite entertaining and attention grabbing. When I asked what they had learnt about the academy from the narration they said not very much. This was discouraging but they also said we would look on the school website for info because the advert had got them interested in the academy. When asked they also said the themes of a fun, challenging and educational experience where well presented in the advert and this is what got them interested.
I Believe I have improved since my last moving image work my editing skills and planning skills have vastly improved and I believe can be seen when comparing this to my music video. My original intentions did change slightly i found my advert wasn't very informative yet inspired the viewers to want to learn more by themselves with the contact info at the end of the advert.
Personal response:
I believe that the advert was quiet appropriate for my target audience young people (16 year olds entering higher education) because of the actors involved the music and the themes present in the advert. I would like to go back and add more information about the school and what else the academy offers. If I had the chance to work on it again but i believe it is still very effective and dose what the school wanted it shows that the academy is fun, challenging and educational.
